Greetings,
Welcome to Heroic Change Journal!
If it sometimes feels like the pace of change is accelerating faster than you
can synthesize, you are not alone. It can be challenging just to get through
each day's "to do" list, much less have time to reflect on how each experience
fits into your life as a whole or how it can contribute to your sense of
purpose, joy, and personal fulfillment.
The goals of this e-zine are to:
- Provide you with a brief respite from your busy day to reconnect with
yourself and remember what is most important
- Inspire you to lead a heroic life, where you gain value from every person
and situation you encounter
- Encourage you to use your personal wisdom to become an effective agent of
change for personal, professional and global transformation
Heroic
Change Journal will provide you with food for thought, free resources,
shared wisdom from fellow heroic travelers, and practical tips to further your
heroic development.
I hope you enjoy this publication and find it helpful. Please let me know how
it can better serve you.

| What is True
Heroism? |
 |
|
"Heroism is ever available, and in fact it is through ordinary experiences
that the ordinary person can become extraordinary." --George Sheehan
In Western culture many of us have grown up with the idea of heroism as
embodied in the lead characters in movies like Rambo, the James Bond series, Die
Hard, Under Siege and Terminator. In this view of heroism the main theme is to
achieve something through dominance and control, often at the expense of others.
This view of heroism is not only pervasive in the movies we watch, but it is
also continually reinforced in the workplace. Even the language we use in our
work reflects our deeply held conquest mentality. We attack a problem, beat our
competition, and make a killing in the market. Seeing heroism in this way can be
limiting and misses the point of why humans have an urge to be heroic.

| The Stages
of Your Heroic Journey |
 |
|
When we choose to experience our lives as a heroic journey, we realize that
there are stages of change that are natural and necessary to the development of
our character and consciousness. To fully live and work from the center of
ourselves, we must cycle through all of the heroic stages. Even though there
will be a different outer appearance for each person who undertakes a heroic
journey, the stages required to get to the next level of wisdom are common to
all of us.

Julia McLane - Small Girl with a Big Heart |

When she celebrated the New Year, ten year old Julia McLane did not yet
realize that 2005 would be such a challenging year. She also didn't know that
events were about to unfold that would give her an opportunity, at such a young
age, to demonstrate the depth of her personal heroism, unselfish giving, and
love for her family.

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely
in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly
used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - WOW! - What A Ride!" --

Activate
Your Heroism Within |

In the late 1980's like so many other people, I was mesmerized by Bill
Moyer's Power of Myth interview series with Joseph Campbell. This is when
I first became consciously aware that the heroic journey was not just a story
about ancient history or idealizing someone on a pedestal, but actually had
relevance to my personal life. It wasn't until many years later, though, that I
began to fully experience its true power and apply it in my day-to-day reality.
